Steppenwolf Classes West Summer Intensive
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
The intensive is designed for professional and aspiring professional theatre artists: actors, directors, graduate and advanced level undergraduate students, and working actors and performers. Previous training is necessary, as this is an accelerated and highly demanding curriculum with long hours and a challenging work load. Applicants will be asked to provide a resume and/or summary of training, as well as an audition (either in person or submitted on tape). Applicants must be 18 years of age as of January 1, 2018 in order to be eligible.
WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS DUE?
Deadline to apply is APRIL 23, 2018. No late applications will be considered.
WHEN & WHERE WILL AUDITIONS BE?
In person auditions will be held in Los Angeles. Date is TBA for auditions and an audition appointment will be offered to all applicants who reside in Southern California. Applicants from outside the LA area will be asked to submit a taped audition.
DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO AUDITION?
All applicants must audition in person or submit an audition tape.
WHAT SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE AUDITION?
Audition instructions will be sent directly to applicants with plenty of time to prepare.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ACCEPTED?
The total number of artists in the program will depend on the applicant pool. The intensive will be taught as an ensemble and class size is limited to afford each participant maximum personal attention and feedback.
WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE LIKE?
In a word: demanding. Classes run from morning until late evening, six days each week. Due to the nature of the course work and work required outside of class, students should only apply if they can devote the full three weeks to the program.
SHOULD I STILL APPLY IF I WILL MISS A PORTION OF THE INTENSIVE?
No. Artists accepted into the program are expected to be available for the entire class schedule, which includes classes daily from morning to late evening. Exceptions cannot be made for any reason due to the ensemble structure of the course.
CAN I MISS CLASSES FOR WORK?
No. Attendance for the duration of the program is expected and no exceptions will be made.
WHERE EXACTLY WILL CLASSES BE HELD?
Location for the 2018 Summer Intensive is on the campus of the University of Southern California School of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles.
CAN I GET COURSE CREDIT FOR SCHOOL?
Credit for Adult Continuing Education is available. Undergraduate and Graduate credit is not.
I'M AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT, CAN YOU PROVIDE A STUDENT VISA?
International students are encouraged to apply for a visitors tourism or B-2 visa. A letter outlining course of study can be provided. For more info, click here.
HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST?
The tuition is $2,400.00 (USD). *Please note: this does NOT include a parking permit fee, which is billed separately to students who will commute to campus.
IS THE FULL TUITION DUE ALL AT ONCE?
A deposit is required to secure a spot in the program. Payment may be made in installments, with full amount due prior to the first day of the Intensive.
IS FINANCIAL AID OR SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?
No financial aid or scholarships are offered. Many of our past students have used crowdfunding (Kickstarter, IndieGogo, etc.) to help them reach their tuition goals.
IS HOUSING PROVIDED / AVAILABLE?
Housing is not provided by The Intensive and is not included in tuition. Students are responsible for finding their own accommodations if they are not local. In the past, many students have used services such as VRBO or Air BNB with success. Once students are accepted into the course, we can help students connect with each other for roommates, co-rentals, etc.
WHAT METHODS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?
Tuition fees can be paid using money order, check, or by credit card (Visa, Master Card).
